He’s Been My Shepherd

Psalm 23:1(NIV)
The Lord Is My Shepherd

Four years ago, I wrote a set of devotionals on Psalm 23. Today, I've been reflecting on how much has changed since writing them. Then, we were at the beginning of a global pandemic, and now that seems like a different life. I’ve lived in three different houses and graduated twice. I’ve had five different jobs and worn many hats. I've gained a new brother-in-law, welcomed the birth of four nieces, and said goodbye to a beloved grandfather. I’ve taken up and laid down hobbies; some friendships have flourished, others have faded; I've travelled to new places and tried new things; I’ve laughed, and I’ve cried; I’ve succeeded, and I've failed.

If I were to summarise the past four years in a single sentence, it would be this: He’s been my Shepherd.

It wasn’t always clear then, but from where I sit now, I can see the faithfulness of his hand at work in everything. I can see it was he, celebrating with me at graduations and weeping with me at the graveside. It was he who provided for me, protected me, led me, and loved me all this way.

There is great power in pondering the past, and as I do, a funny thing is happening - as I am recalling his faithfulness, I find myself full of faith. Life isn’t perfect right now, far from it, but the problems of the present seem smaller in the light of his past faithfulness.

At the outset of this new week, take a moment to reflect on your life. Recall the good times, the hard times, the battles, and the blessings, and ask the Lord to show you how he has shepherded you.

I pray that as he reveals his faithfulness, you find yourself full of faith for today.

Prayer - Thank you for everything.
